Due to my ongoing funemployment, I had no work to bike to when Bike to Work day rolled around. But that’s no reason not to ride. Especially after, um, 3 consecutive free breakfasts!

I got up at some ridiculously early hour on Bike to Work day, hoping to make it out on a ride with Lincoln for most of the day, and to avoid the heat of the day. Lincoln was dragging a bit though, so I went out with the early crew to get a breakfast... or three.

Alfalfa's (known around here sometimes as al Fas... because the name wraps around the corner, and you can often only see the "alfas" part) just opened late this spring, and is marketing itself hard as a kind of touchy feely local Whole Foods. One benefit: as a non-chain grocery store, they get to have a liquor store inside, instead of having to grow some kind of parasitic liquor dispensing appendage next door. The place was completely mobbed, and a bunch of good stuff. Fresh juice, chilequiles, sausage. Yum!

Then we headed down to the Dushambe Tea House station for biscuits and jam, fritata and chai. A gang of bcycle folks came by with flags on their rides. I liked the one that said "No Spandex Necessary", with the girl in the polka dot dress.

Lincoln was just becoming conscious when I got back from breakfast(s), and so we ended up doing a super hot ride, up Logan Mill to Sugarloaf to Nederland. Seriously sweaty, but it felt good. Given the choice, I think I'd definitely take the drizzle that Kerry and I had two days earlier though.

Getting up high on Sugarloaf you finally see the divide, calling to you with its icy peaks. It's going to take a long time to melt out this year, barring freakish heat.

After 1500 m of climbing and 25 miles or riding or so, the all you can eat lunch buffet at Kathmandu was irresistable. I tried not to make myself quite as disgustingly full this time as a couple of days before... since we were planning to head further up the Peak to Peak, and come back via Magnolia instead of bombing down Boulder Canyon. I had only modest success.

I don't think Lincoln took his helmet off the entire time we were in the restaurant...
